ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Observation balloon

An observation balloon is a big balloon that goes up in the sky and stays there so people on the ground can use it to see things better. It's like a really big, round, and colorful ball that has a long string that holds it to the ground.

When people want to use the balloon to observe things, they climb inside a basket that is attached to the bottom of the balloon. The balloon is made of really strong material so that it doesn't pop if it hits something sharp or if it's really windy.

When the balloon goes up in the sky, it can float above everything else and people can see things from a really high place, like birds. They can see things that they couldn't see from the ground, like a big parade, a sports game, or a city.

Observation balloons were first used for war to get a better view of things that soldiers on the ground couldn't see. But now, they're also used for fun, like in hot air balloon rides, to see beautiful scenery from up high.
