Ocean Dumping Act

Do you know how we throw our trash in the garbage can? Just like how we have a garbage can at home, the oceans also have a place where we should dump things we don't want anymore. We call it ocean dumping, and it's when people throw garbage, sewage, and other things that are harmful to the ocean and its creatures in the ocean.

The government doesn't like ocean dumping because it's like littering, but in the ocean. So, they made a law called the Ocean Dumping Act. This law tells people what can and cannot be thrown in the ocean, and where they can or cannot throw it. The law was made to protect the ocean and keep it clean from pollution.

The Ocean Dumping Act says that there are certain things that we can't throw in the ocean, like chemicals, trash, and waste from factories. We also can't dump things in the ocean anywhere we like. Only specific locations are allowed for ocean dumping, and these places have to be far away from the coast, so the toxic materials can’t float back to shore.

People who break this law by throwing bad things in the ocean can get in trouble and may have to pay a big fine. This is important because we need to take care of the ocean and its creatures by keeping it clean and free from harmful things.
