Octave (liturgical)

Okay kiddo, so you know how in music there are different notes that make different sounds? Well, a group of eight of those notes put together is called an octave.

Now, in church, they often have music that they sing called liturgical music. Liturgical music is organized to fit within certain time frames and is often used during church services or religious celebrations.

An octave in liturgical music is when the music goes up or down by eight notes. It's kind of like a ladder with eight rungs where each rung is a different note. So if you start on the first rung, and go up eight rungs, you end up on the next highest rung.

And that's what an octave in liturgical music is! It's a group of eight notes, either going up or down, that helps organize the music so everyone can sing together.
