Odious debt

Odious debt is a special kind of debt. It's a debt that a government borrows that is meant to be used for bad things like helping an unfair leader stay in power. It is a kind of debt that the people living in that country did not want and they often suffer when they are asked to pay the debt back. It is wrong for anyone to make a country pay back these debts, so it's usually not allowed.
