Okay kiddo, so you know how when you play a game, you need rules to know how to play fair? Well, that's the same for baseball!
When big grown-up players play baseball in the Major League, they follow these official rules to make sure everyone plays the game right.
There are lots of rules, but here are some of the most important ones:
1. There are two teams, and each team has nine players on the field at a time. One team "pitches" the ball to the other team, and the other team tries to hit it with a bat and score a point.
2. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins. But if the game is tied, they keep playing until someone wins.
3. Players have to play fair and not cheat. Cheating is not allowed!
4. When a player is batting, they can't step outside of a certain area in front of the pitcher. They have to stay inside that area or they will get in trouble.
5. The pitcher has to throw the ball over a certain area called the "strike zone." If the ball is too high or too low, the umpire will say "ball!" If it's in the strike zone, they say "strike!"
6. When a player hits the ball, there are certain places they're allowed to run to. They have to run to the first base, then the second base, and so on until they can make it home and score a point. But if the other team catches the ball before it touches the ground, then the batter is "out."
7. There are lots of other rules about stealing bases and how long games can last, and the umpires are always making sure everyone is playing fair.
So that's basically it, kiddo! Baseball has a lot of rules to make sure everyone plays fair and has fun.
