Offshore (hydrocarbons)

Offshore hydrocarbons refer to the oil and natural gas that are found underneath the ocean floor. It's like a treasure buried deep under the sea. To reach this treasure, people build big structures called oil platforms that look like big, tall towers in the middle of the ocean.

These platforms are strong and sturdy enough to withstand big waves, strong winds, and storms out in the ocean. These platforms have special pipes and equipment that allow people to drill deep into the ocean floor to extract the oil and gas.

Oil and gas are formed from dead plants and animals millions of years ago. When they die, their remains sink to the bottom of the ocean and get covered with sand, mud, and other materials. Over time, heat and pressure transform these remains into oil and gas.

Offshore hydrocarbons are an important source of energy for the world. They provide fuel to power cars, run factories, and generate electricity. However, drilling for oil and gas can also have negative effects on the environment, such as oil spills that can harm marine life and pollute the ocean.
