Imagine you have a toy box full of treasures. But, you can't see everything way down at the bottom. You decide to dig your hand through the toys to see what other things you can find. That's pretty much what oil drilling is like.
Instead of toys, we are looking for oil deep beneath the ground. When we want to get oil, we use big machines that dig down into the earth, like a giant straw, and suck out the oil. Sometimes, the oil is really far away, so we have to drill very deep.
Before we start drilling, we use special equipment to look for a spot where there might be oil. This is called "geology." If we find a good spot, then we start drilling. We dig a hole and put a big metal pipe down there, and keep drilling deeper and deeper until we reach the oil.
Once we hit the oil, we pump it into a big container and bring it to the surface. From there, we clean it, test it, and then use it for fuel, like for cars and airplanes.
But drilling for oil can create a lot of problems. Sometimes it can cause pollution, and it can be risky for people and wildlife nearby. So, we have to be very careful and make sure we are doing it safely.
