Olivella (gastropod)

Olivella is a kind of sea animal that lives in a shell. It looks like a small, pointy cone with a swirl on top. Olivella spends most of its time buried in sand or rocks near the ocean. It uses its foot to move around and find food.

Olivella eats plankton, which are tiny plants and animals that float in the water. It has a long tube called a siphon that it uses to suck up water and catch the plankton. Olivella doesn't have teeth, but it has a special tongue covered in tiny, sharp bumps called radula that it uses to scrape off and eat its food.

Olivella needs a way to protect itself from predators, like crabs and birds, so it makes a hard shell to live inside. When it feels threatened, Olivella can quickly retract its long, slimy foot and close up the opening of the shell with a special muscle. This makes it difficult for predators to get to it.

People sometimes collect Olivella shells because they are pretty and can be used to make jewelry or decorations. However, it is important to remember that Olivella is a living creature and should be treated with respect and not harmed.
