Ondol

Ondol is a special type of heating system that people in Korea use to keep their homes warm during cold times. Think of it like a warm blanket that covers the entire floor of the house!

Here's how it works: There's a special space under the floor of the house where hot air and steam are created. When it gets really cold outside, the air and steam are sent through pipes and released into the room through small holes in the floor. This hot air and steam make the whole floor warm, so you can walk around your house without shoes on and your feet will stay nice and toasty!

The ondol system has been around for a really long time, like hundreds of years! Even though there are lots of other ways to heat a house now, many Korean people still use ondol because it's efficient and really comfortable. Plus, it's kind of fun to lie down on the warm floor and take a nap!
