Oosterscheldekering

The Oosterscheldekering is a really big wall made out of concrete and steel that can stop the water coming in from the sea when there is a big storm or a very high tide. It is like a giant gate that can open and close to let the water in or keep it out. The wall is built in a big river called the Oosterschelde, which is in the Netherlands. When the gate is open, the water can flow in and out of the river like normal, but when the gate is closed, the water outside the river can't get in. This is really important because the area around the Oosterschelde used to flood really badly and people's homes and businesses could get destroyed. But now, thanks to the Oosterscheldekering, people are much safer from floods.
