ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Op. cit.

Okay kiddo, have you ever read a book and seen a little word or abbreviation that says "op. cit."?

That's just a fancy way of saying "I already talked about this source earlier in my writing, and you can find more information about it there."

You see, when people write things like research papers or books, they often have to use lots of different sources to support their ideas.

Now, instead of repeating the same information over and over, they might just use "op. cit." to save space and time.

It's like a secret code that tells the reader to go back to an earlier part of the writing and look for the source that was mentioned there.

So, op. cit. is just a little shortcut for writers to make their writing a bit easier, but it might be confusing if you've never seen it before!
