ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Opele

Opele is a special bead chain that is used in a type of divination called Ifa in certain parts of Africa. Divination means trying to find out things that you don't know yet.

Opele is made up of small beads that are strung together on a string or wire. The beads are different colors and sizes and they are arranged in a specific pattern. When someone wants to use opele to find out information, they hold the chain by the middle and then they throw it onto the ground or a special divination board.

Each different way that the beads land tells the diviner important information about someone's life or future. This helps the diviner give advice to people about what choices they should make or what might happen to them in the future.

Opele is an important part of Ifa divination and it is used by people who follow traditional African religions. It's a way to connect with ancestors and spirits and to get advice about life.
