Open standards are rules and guidelines that everyone follows, like the rules of the road when you drive a car. An open standard is an agreement that everyone agrees to follow so that things will work together. For example, all computers need to ‘talk’ to each other and understand each other, so an open standard helps them do that. Open standards help people share information in the same way with different technologies.
