A specification (sometimes called a technical standard) is a set of rules or guidelines that a product or technology needs to follow in order to work properly. For example, a computer has a lot of different parts, like a hard drive, a CPU, and a monitor. All of these parts need to work together properly so that the computer can do its job. A specification tells the designer of the computer how these parts need to fit together, how big or powerful they need to be, and how they should all work together. That way, the computer will be able to do its job.
