ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Optical attached cable

An optical attached cable is like a really long string that carries information using light instead of electricity. Just like a string can be used to carry sound from one friend to another, an optical cable can carry information from one place to another using light.

The cable has tiny glass or plastic wires inside it that are called fibers. When information is sent through the cable, it gets turned into a beam of light that travels through the fibers.

This beam of light can travel really far without losing too much energy, which means that information can be sent over long distances using an optical cable. This is why optical cables are often used by companies to connect different buildings or cities together.

It's kind of like sending a secret message to your friend across the playground using a really long string. The message travels through the string just like information travels through the optical cable.
