ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Optical engineering

Optical engineering is like playing with light to make it do what we want it to do. Remember how you use a magnifying glass to make things look bigger? That’s because the glass bends the light to make it look bigger. Optical engineers use similar tools to do amazing things with light.

They design and create optical devices, like lenses, mirrors, and fiber optics that help us see and communicate. They use fancy machines and software to measure and control the way light moves through these devices.

These gadgets can do all kinds of helpful things, like helping doctors look inside your body, allowing us to take pictures from far away, or even sending messages through thin glass wires!

Optical engineering is important because it helps us explore new frontiers in science and technology, and makes our lives better in all sorts of ways.
