Opus sectile

Opus sectile is a fancy word that means cutting things into pieces and putting them back together to make a picture. It's like when you make a puzzle but instead of using lots of little pieces, you use big pieces of stone or tile to create a picture on a floor or a wall.

Imagine you have a picture of a flower that you want to create using opus sectile. You would start with a big piece of marble or tile in the shape of a petal and you would cut it into smaller pieces that would fit together like a puzzle. You would then take another piece of marble in a different color and cut it to fit next to the petal to create the stem.

You would continue doing this, cutting and fitting together different colored pieces of stone or tile until the picture of the flower is complete. The end result is a beautiful work of art made entirely out of stone or tile!
