Orania, Northern Cape

Orania, Northern Cape is a small town in South Africa that is ran by Afrikaners - people of Dutch, French and German descent. The town was founded in 1991 and they only accept people of Afrikaner descent to live in the town. Everyone in Orania is allowed to keep their own culture, language and customs - which are all very important to the people that live there. The town works together to make sure their culture continues and that everyone is taken care of. Everyone in Orania must use the Afrikaans language and all their services are provided by their own people. This town may seem odd to other people but it is important to the Afrikaners living there so they can continue their culture and have a safe place to live.
