ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ordinal numerical competence

Ordinal numerical competence means the ability to recognize and compare numbers in order from smallest to largest. It's a bit like a counting game that kids might play. For example, if I give a child three numbers – 2, 4, and 6 – they need to be able to recognize that 2 is the smallest number, 4 is the middle number, and 6 is the biggest number among the three. Being able to do this means they have ordinal numerical competence.
