Ordination of women in Buddhism

Okay, so you know how some people like to become very special in their religion, like priests or pastors, and they can do things like lead prayers and give advice to others? Well, in Buddhism there's something like that too, called ordination. When someone is ordained, they become a monk or a nun and they dedicate their whole lives to practicing Buddhism and helping others.

For a long time, only men could become monks in Buddhism. But some people thought that women should have the same opportunities too, so now in some Buddhist traditions women can also become monks or nuns. This is called the ordination of women in Buddhism.

Some people still don't agree with this, because they think women aren't as important as men or that it goes against tradition. But others think it's really important to give everyone the chance to dedicate their lives to Buddhism if they want to. So it's still a bit of a debate among Buddhists, but overall it's becoming more common for women to be ordained too.
