The Orem model of nursing is a way of thinking about how to take care of people who are sick or hurt. Think about it like building a house. When you build a house, you need different materials and tools to make it strong and sturdy. Similarly, when someone is sick or hurt, they need things to help them feel better and get back to their normal selves again. This is where nurses come in!
The Orem model says that nurses should think about three things when they take care of someone:
1. What is the person's self-care deficit?
This means that the nurse needs to figure out what the person can't do for themselves because of their illness or injury. Like how a baby can't feed themselves, someone who is sick or hurt might not be able to do things they normally can do.
2. What can the nurse do to help?
This means that the nurse needs to figure out what things they can do to make the person feel better and help them take care of themselves. Just like how a parent helps a baby learn to eat or walk, a nurse can help an adult learn how to take care of themselves when they can't do it alone.
3. How can the person learn to take care of themselves?
This means that the nurse needs to help the person learn how to do things on their own again so they can take care of themselves when they're feeling better. Just like how a baby learns to feed themselves or walk, an adult can learn how to take care of themselves when they're sick or hurt.
So basically, the Orem model of nursing is all about figuring out what someone can't do because they're sick or hurt, helping them feel better, and teaching them how to take care of themselves so they can get back to their normal selves again!
