Orifice plate

An orifice plate is like a traffic cop in a pipe. It helps control the flow of water, gas, or any other fluid that is flowing through a pipe.

Now, imagine that you are trying to drink milkshake through a straw, but someone is holding their finger over the end of the straw. You notice that when they remove their finger, you can drink the milkshake much easier. The same thing happens with fluid flowing through a pipe. An orifice plate is like the finger that is taken off the end of the straw - it creates a small opening in the pipe that allows the fluid to flow more easily.

The orifice plate is usually a thin flat plate that is installed perpendicular to the pipe, and it has a small hole in the middle. When fluid flows through the hole, it contracts and accelerates. This reduces the pressure of the fluid, which can be measured on either side of the orifice plate.

This measurement is important for a lot of industries, such as oil and gas, because it helps them understand how much fluid is moving through the pipe. By measuring the pressure difference across the orifice plate, engineers can calculate the flow rate of the fluid.

Overall, an orifice plate is a small but important part of pipes that helps control the flow rate of fluids, and it helps industries measure how much fluid is moving through their pipes.
