Okay kiddo, let's talk about how birds learned to fly.
You know how birds have wings, right? Well, long, long ago, there were dinosaurs living on Earth that looked a lot like birds. These dinosaurs had feathers, but they couldn't fly – they probably used their feathers to keep warm or attract mates.
But then, something started to happen. Some of these feathered dinosaurs started to develop longer arms and shorter legs. Their feathers also changed – they became stronger and more streamlined. These changes helped these dinosaurs run really fast and jump high into the air.
One day, one of these dinosaurs was able to stay in the air longer than usual. Maybe it caught a gust of wind or found a slope to glide down. Whatever happened, this dinosaur discovered that it could kind of fly.
Over time, these feathered dinosaurs kept evolving to become better and better at flying. They developed lighter bones, stronger muscles, and better eyesight. They also learned how to flap their wings to stay in the air longer and soar higher.
Eventually, these feathered dinosaurs became what we now know as birds. And voila, that's the story of how birds learned to fly!
