ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Orphanage

An orphanage is a place where children who do not have parents or whose parents cannot care for them are taken care of. It is like a big home where lots of children live together, play together and learn together.

Just like how Daddy and Mommy take care of you at home, there are people called caretakers who take care of the children at the orphanage. They make sure that the children eat well, sleep well and stay healthy.

The children who live in an orphanage might not have toys to play with or books to read. But the caretakers try their best to bring happiness to the children's lives by arranging games and fun activities for them. There could also be classes where the children learn to read and write, and they can make friends with other children who are also living in the orphanage.

Some children might stay in the orphanage for a short time until someone from their family comes to take them home. Other children might stay for a long time and might even grow up there.

Overall, an orphanage serves as a home for children who do not have a family to take care of them, and there are people who work hard to make sure that the children feel loved, safe and happy.
