Ottoman claim to Roman succession

So, a long long time ago, there were these people called Romans who had a big empire with lots of land and power. But, over time, their empire got smaller and weaker.

Meanwhile, there was another group of people, called the Ottomans, who lived in a different part of the world. They grew big and strong and started to conquer lots of land and people.

One day, the Ottomans said that they were the rightful successors to the Roman Empire. That means they thought that they were the ones who should have all the power and land that the Romans used to have.

But, lots of other people didn't agree with them and thought that they were just trying to take over more stuff. And, even though the Ottomans did conquer some of the land that used to belong to the Romans, they were never really able to fully claim the Roman succession.
