Oubliette

Dear child, do you know what a castle is? Sometimes castles have secret rooms where people can hide. Well, an oubliette is like a secret room in a castle where people were thrown and forgotten about.

It's a really scary room because there are no windows or doors to get out. The only way to enter or exit is through a hole in the ceiling which is covered with a heavy trapdoor. This trapdoor is usually the only source of light and air.

Oubliettes were used a long time ago as a form of punishment or imprisonment. People who were thrown into an oubliette could not escape or get help, and they were left to starve to death or die of thirst. It was a very cruel way to treat people.

Thankfully, people don't use oubliettes anymore. We have much better ways of punishing people who break the law. It's important to be kind and treat people with respect, even if they make mistakes.
