Our Lady of Guadalupe

Our Lady of Guadalupe is a very special and important lady for many people in Mexico and around the world. She is a symbol of peace, hope, and love.

A long, long time ago, in the year 1531, there was a man named Juan Diego who lived in Mexico. One day, while he was walking, he saw a lady standing on a hill. She was dressed in beautiful clothes and shone as bright as the sun. The lady spoke to Juan Diego and told him that she was the Virgin Mary, who is the mother of Jesus. She asked Juan Diego to build a church on that hill where she was standing.

Juan Diego was scared and didn't know what to do, but he went to see a bishop and told him about the lady he saw. The bishop didn't believe Juan Diego, so the next time the lady appeared to him, she gave him a special sign to show to the bishop. The sign was a bunch of roses that she said he would find on the hill, even though it was wintertime and flowers didn't usually grow at that time of year.

Juan Diego did find the roses, and when he showed them to the bishop, the roses fell to the ground and left behind an image of the lady on Juan Diego's cloak. This image is now known as Our Lady of Guadalupe. Many people believe that she is a miracle because the image never fades or wears out, even though it has been around for over 500 years.

Today, people still visit the church on the hill where Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared. They pray to her and ask for her help and guidance in their lives. She is a very special lady who reminds us of the love and kindness that we should have for others.
