ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Over-the-air programming

Have you ever played with a toy car that had a remote control? You could make the car move forward, backwards, turn left and turn right just by using the remote control.

Over-the-air programming is kind of like that, but instead of a toy car, it's used to update software on electronic devices like your phone, tablet, or even your car.

Imagine your electronic device is the toy car and the software is like the instructions telling the car what to do. Sometimes, the instructions need to be changed or updated to make the car work better or add new features.

In the past, when we wanted to update the software, we needed to plug the device into a computer using a cable to upload the new instructions. But with over-the-air programming, we can send the new instructions wirelessly through the air, just like how the remote control sends signals to the toy car.

By doing this, we can update our devices without having to plug them in, so it's more convenient and faster. Just like how you can control the toy car from a distance, we can update our devices from a distance too!
