ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Overshooting top

Okay kiddo, imagine you have a ball and you throw it up in the air really hard. Sometimes, the ball goes up higher than you meant it to and goes above where you wanted it to stop. This is called overshooting.

The same thing can happen with something called an overshooting top. This happens when there is a big storm in the sky and the air moves really fast. The fast air pushes clouds up really high, like when you threw your ball really hard. Sometimes, the clouds go up higher than they're supposed to, and this can cause some problems.

When the clouds go up really high, they can make the storm even bigger and stronger, which can be dangerous for people on the ground. The high clouds can also bring thunder and lightning, which can be scary and make loud noises.

So when we hear about an overshooting top, we know that there's a storm happening where the clouds are going up really high. It's important to stay inside and be safe when there's an overshooting top storm happening, just like you stay inside when it's stormy outside with lightning and thunder.
