Oxygen saturation is the amount of oxygen in your blood. Your body needs oxygen to work properly and stay alive. When you breathe in air, your lungs take in oxygen and send it to your blood. Your blood then carries the oxygen to all parts of your body.
We can check how much oxygen is in your blood by using a special device called a pulse oximeter. You put your finger inside the device and it shines a light through your finger to measure the amount of oxygen in your blood.
A normal oxygen saturation level is usually between 95% and 100%. This means that almost all the blood in your body has the right amount of oxygen that it needs to help your body work well.
However, some people may have lower oxygen saturation levels. This can be because of different reasons, like a lung disease, sleep apnea, heart problems, or a high altitude. It is important to monitor your oxygen saturation level because low oxygen levels can cause problems in your body, like fatigue, headaches, shortness of breath, and even damage to your organs.
