Père Fouettard

Père Fouettard is a character from French folklore who comes around during Christmas-time to scare naughty children. He wears black clothes and carries a big stick or whip, which he uses to punish children who have misbehaved. Père Fouettard is said to have been a mean and cruel man who kidnapped and killed children, but then repented and became a helper of Saint Nicholas, who brings presents to good children. Today, Père Fouettard is mostly a fun imaginary character who reminds children to be good during the holiday season. So, just remember to be well-behaved and you won't have to worry about Père Fouettard's punishment!
