ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Pakistani textbooks controversy

Okay, so remember how we learn things in school from books, right? Well, in Pakistan, there is a big argument about what those school books should say. Some people think that the books should talk about only one religion, Islam, and should not talk about other religions like Hinduism, Christianity, or Sikhism. They also think that the books should say good things about famous people who did bad things, like some past leaders of Pakistan who hurt other people.

But, there are other people who think that the books should talk about all religions and show respect for all people. They also think that the books should tell the truth about the bad things that happened in the past, so that we don't make the same mistakes again.

So, you see, it's like having two groups of people who disagree about what is important to learn in school and how it should be taught. It's up to the government and people in charge to make the final decision on what the textbooks should say, but it can be really hard to make everyone happy!
