ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Panchayatana puja

Panchayatana puja is a Hindu ritual where one worships the five main deities of Hinduism. These gods are Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, Goddess Devi, Lord Ganesha, and Lord Surya. The ritual involves setting up a special area or altar where the five deity symbols or idols are placed.

Before starting the ritual, one must take a shower or bath to cleanse themselves. Then they light some incense and offer it to the gods. They also light a lamp or diya as a symbol of enlightenment and light.

Next, the worshipper chants mantras or prayers to each of the five deities, offering them flowers, fruits, and sweets. They also offer water as a symbol of purity and milk as a symbol of nourishment.

After offering the five Gods, one then meditates, chants, or reads spiritual texts to further connect with these deities. This ritual is conducted daily, weekly, or on special occasions like weddings and festivals.

The purpose of panchayatana puja is to connect with the five primary deities of Hinduism and gain their blessings, guidance, and protection in our daily lives. By doing this ritual, one seeks to become more spiritual, pure, and balanced in life while purifying the body, mind, and soul.
