ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Parallel harmony

Parallel harmony is when two or more notes or chords are played or sung at the same time, but they sound very similar to each other. It's like when you play two toys that look almost exactly the same, like two green cars, at the same time. Even though they're different toys, they sound very similar when played together, just like the notes in parallel harmony.

Musicians use parallel harmony to make music sound more interesting and to add emotion or feeling to a song. It's like adding different flavors or spices to a recipe to make it taste better.

For example, if you sing the word "happy" and then sing the same word but higher or lower, it will sound similar but a little bit different. This is a type of parallel harmony called parallel melody.

Overall, parallel harmony is when notes or chords played together sound very similar to each other, and it's used in music to add emotion and variation.
