ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Parallel import

Imagine you have a bunch of toys. Some of the toys come from a store that's far away while some others come from a store that's close by. Now, let's say that you can buy the same toy from both stores but the one that's farther away might be cheaper.

Parallel import is just like that. It's when you can buy the same product from different countries or regions but the price might be different due to reasons like taxes or exchange rates.

For example, let's say you want to buy a phone. You find that the phone is cheaper in a different country than in your home country. So you can buy the phone from that country at a lower price and bring it to your country to use it.

But sometimes, companies don't like this because they might lose money as people are buying their product at a lower price from a different country. So, they might create special versions of their product for different countries which might have different features or prices to prevent people from buying the product from a different country.

In conclusion, parallel import is just buying the same product from a different country at a lower price, but sometimes special versions of the product exist for different countries to prevent this from happening.
