ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Parallel play

Parallel play is when children play alongside each other, but they don't really interact with each other. It's like playing alone, but with friends around you.

Imagine you're at the playground with your friends. You might be digging in the sand while your friend is swinging on the swings, and another friend is sliding down the slide. Even though you're all playing at the same time, you're not really playing together. You're just doing your own thing next to each other.

That's what parallel play is - it's like playing near your friends, but you're each doing your own thing without really playing together. It's a normal part of development for young children as they learn to be around other kids and explore their own interests.
