ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Participatory theatre

Participatory theatre is like playing a game where you get to pretend and act like you are in a story together with other people. It's like when you play make-believe with your friends but on a bigger scale.

In participatory theatre, everyone gets to be a part of the story, and it's not just the actors on stage. The actors might ask you to help them with something, or you might get to decide what they should do next. This is called "participation" because everyone is participating or taking part in creating the story.

It's different from regular theatre where you just sit and watch the story being told by the actors. In participatory theatre, you get to control what happens next by making choices and decisions. You might even get to create new endings or change the story entirely!

Sometimes, there might be some rules to follow, like not hurting anyone or not breaking any props. But other than that, you can let your imagination run wild and have fun creating your version of the story.

Participating in theatre can be a great way to learn new things, make new friends, and boost your confidence in yourself. It's like being the hero of your own story for a little while, and that can make you feel really special and important.
