ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Passenger car equivalent

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen different sizes of vehicles on the road? Some are big like a bus and some are small like a bike. We call them vehicles because they help us move from one place to another. When we talk about "passenger car equivalent," we are comparing the size and weight of different vehicles to a regular passenger car.

It's like when we compare different fruits to an apple, we say "one banana is equivalent to two apples" because they have a similar size or weight. So, when we say a big truck is equivalent to 5 passenger cars, it means that the truck is as heavy and takes up as much space on the road as 5 regular cars.

This is important because when we are planning roads or bridges, we need to make sure they can handle the weight and size of different types of vehicles. We use passenger car equivalent to make calculations and decisions about how to build things that will be safe for all types of vehicles to use.

Did that help you understand, little one?
