ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Patch board

Imagine you have a big box of Legos. You want to make a cool creation but you don't know where to start. One way to start is by using a big board with lots of holes in it. Each hole is like a space where you can put a Lego. You can put Legos in any order you like, but it might be hard to change them later if you change your mind.

Now imagine you have a lot of wires instead of Legos. You need to connect the wires together so they can talk to each other. Just like with Legos, you can put one end of a wire in a hole on the board. Then you can put another wire in a different hole and connect it to the first wire by sticking them together with a little metal piece called a "patch cable".

This is what a patch board is - it's a board with lots of holes where you can put wires and connect them together. It's kind of like a big Lego board where you can build different structures, but instead of Legos you use wires and little metal pieces.

Patch boards are really useful because they let you easily connect and disconnect wires without having to cut or splice them. You can also move the wires around if you need to change something. It's like playing with Legos, but with wires!
