Patent slip

Okay kiddo, so you know how boats are really heavy and big, right? Well, sometimes they need to be lifted up out of the water so people can work on them or fix them.

A patent slip is kind of like a big, tricky ramp that helps lift boats out of the water. The ramp is a bit slanted, so the boat can be pulled up onto it using ropes or chains.

Once the boat is on the ramp, the people working on it can do their job without worrying about water getting in the way.

When the boat is all fixed up, it can be lowered back down into the water using the patent slip.

Cool, huh?
