Pavise

Okay, so imagine you're playing a game of hide-and-seek with your friends, but you want to stay safe while you're hiding. That's where a pavise comes in!

A pavise is like a big shield that you can hide behind to protect yourself. It's made out of wood or metal and has a really cool design on it.

People used to use pavises a long time ago during battles to protect themselves from getting hit by arrows or other weapons. They would carry the pavise with them and set it up in front of them as a wall of protection.

So, if you were a knight in a battle and you knew there were archers around shooting arrows at you, you would use your pavise to block the arrows from hitting you.

Pretty cool, huh? Just make sure you don't use it during hide-and-seek - that's cheating!
