ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Pedestrian detection

Pedestrian detection is when a computer or machine can recognize when there is a person walking or standing in front of it. Just like how you can tell the difference between a dog and a cat, a computer can be trained to recognize the difference between a person and a car or a tree.

This technology is especially important for self-driving cars, because they need to be able to detect when a person is in the road so they can stop and avoid hurting them. The computer looks at the shape and movement of things in front of it to figure out if it is a person or not.

It's like when you play a memory game where you have to match pictures. The computer has a library of pictures of what people look like, and when it sees something that matches that picture, it knows it's a person.

This technology is still being developed and made better, but it can already be found in some cars and cameras. It's important because it can save lives and make our roads safer for everyone.
