ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Peercasting

Peercasting is like a big game of telephone, where you and your friends are passing messages along to each other. Instead of just talking to one person at a time, you're all talking to each other at the same time.

Imagine you are playing with toy telephones and you are talking to your friend on one end. Meanwhile, your other friend is talking to another friend on their toy telephone. Now, you and your friend want to hear what your other friend's conversation is about. So you tell your friend to hold their toy telephone up to your toy telephone, so you can hear the other conversation. Your other friend does the same thing with their friend's telephone.

That's what peercasting does too. When you want to watch a video or listen to music, instead of just streaming it from one website, you are getting pieces of the video or music from different people who are also watching or listening at the same time. Each of these people has a little piece of the video or music, and they share it with everyone else who is watching or listening.

It's like you and your friends are all working together to make sure everyone can enjoy the same video or music, and the more people who are watching or listening, the better quality and faster the video or music will be for everyone.
