Pelasgian creation myth
Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, before people even knew how to write things down or make books, there were some people who lived in a very special place called Greece. These people were very curious about where everything came from and how it all started.
So, they tried to come up with explanations for things, and one of the things they wanted to explain was how the world began. They told stories that they thought might explain it, and these stories are called myths.
One of the myths these people came up with was the Pelasgian creation myth. It's a story they thought explained how the world was created.
According to this myth, there was a god named Eurynome who was all alone in the universe. She decided she wanted to create something, so she danced on the surface of the sea. As she danced, the water began to swirl and foam around her.
Then, she saw a bird called a pelican flying in the sky. She realized that the pelican could help her create the world. So, she turned into a pelican herself and laid an egg in the swirling waters.
From that egg hatched a god named Ophion. Eurynome and Ophion created the world together. They made the mountains, the rivers, and the oceans out of the swirling water.
They also created all of the creatures that lived in the world, like animals, birds, and even humans. Eurynome was the goddess of creation and Ophion was the god of the world.
