Pennon

Okay kiddo, let's talk about pennons! Imagine you are playing outside with your friends and you want to decorate your treehouse. You could use ribbons or paper to make it look pretty. Well, a pennon is kind of like a little ribbon flag that you can attach to something.

Now, let's go back in time to the middle ages. Back then, knights would go into battle with big, heavy flags called banners that showed off their family crest or who they were fighting for. But, sometimes they needed a smaller flag, maybe to tie to their lance so they could easily see who their enemy was in the midst of all the fighting. That's where a pennon came in.

So, a pennon is basically like a really small banner or flag that knights used in battle. It was usually just a few feet long and a foot wide, and it was tied to their lance or spear. They would often put their family crest or other symbols on the pennon to show who they were fighting for.

Today, you might still see pennons used in some special ceremonies or events. But mostly, they are just a reminder of the cool things that happened a long time ago!
