Pericles

Pericles was a really important person who lived a long, long time ago in ancient Greece. He was like a leader or a boss of the city of Athens. People looked up to him because he was very smart and had lots of good ideas. He helped Athens become a very powerful city with lots of new buildings and art.

Pericles believed in something called democracy, which means that everyone can have a say in how the city is run. He changed things so that more people could be part of the government, not just the rich ones. He also made it so that people who worked for the city, like the soldiers or the people who built things, got paid for their work.

Pericles was a big fan of the arts, and he made sure that artists and writers were supported so they could create beautiful things. He also built lots of new buildings, like temples and theaters, that people could enjoy.

Even though Pericles did a lot of good things, he also made some mistakes. He started a big war with another city, Sparta, which caused a lot of problems and hurt a lot of people. But overall, Pericles was a really important and smart person who helped make Athens a great place to live.
