Perinatal mortality means babies who are born too early or too sick and then die within their first 28 days of life. It can also include babies who are born still or die in their mother's womb. It's a very sad thing and doctors and nurses are always working very hard to make sure that as few babies as possible die this way. They take care of pregnant women and watch over the baby while it grows inside the mommy's tummy. If there are any problems or risks, they work to get the baby out safely and then take care of it so it can grow up healthy and strong. Sometimes, even with all of their hard work and effort, babies still die and it's very sad for everyone involved.
