Perpetual check

Have you ever played chess or seen people play chess? In chess, one player tries to trap the other player's king so that it cannot move, which means they would win the game. But sometimes, a player can keep checking the other player's king over and over again, without trapping it. This is called perpetual check.

Think about it like playing tag. The person who is "it" is trying to catch the other person. But imagine if the other person could keep running around in circles and tagging the person who's "it" before they could get caught. This would be like perpetual check in chess - the player is avoiding being trapped by constantly checking the other player's king.

When a player keeps checking the other player's king like this, the game cannot continue because it would just be the same moves over and over again. So, in chess, if one player is able to put the other player's king in perpetual check, the game is considered a draw because neither player can win. It's like calling the game a tie because neither player was able to win.

So, in simple terms, perpetual check means one player keeps checking the other player's king over and over again, and the game ends in a draw because neither player can win.
