Persecution of pagans in the late Roman Empire

Okay kiddo, so let me tell you about the late Roman Empire and how some people were treated unfairly.

Back then, most people believed in different gods and goddesses, and they had different ways of worshiping them. These people were called pagans. However, as time passed by, more and more people started to follow Christianity, which was a new religion.

The emperor of Rome at the time, whose name was Theodosius, became a Christian, and he didn't like the pagans anymore. He decided that everyone in the empire should be Christian and that the pagan religions should be banned.

So, he passed a law that made it illegal to practice paganism. This meant that people who didn't follow Christianity had to hide their beliefs and couldn't worship their gods and goddesses openly anymore.

The Christians who followed Theodosius also started to attack the pagan temples and statues. They destroyed them and burned them down. Many pagans were terrified and didn't know what to do.

The persecution of the pagans continued for many years, even after Theodosius died. Many pagans had to pretend to be Christian to avoid punishment. Others fled to other parts of the empire where they were still allowed to worship their gods and goddesses.

It was a very sad time for the pagans, and it shows how intolerance and discrimination can hurt people. But fortunately, things are different now, and everyone has the right to practice their religion without fear of persecution.
