Personal flotation device

A personal flotation device, or PFD, is a special type of clothing that can help keep you above water if you fall in. It's like a life jacket, only it's smaller and more comfortable. It's made out of special materials that keep you floating, even if you can't swim. It's also brightly colored, so it's easy to spot in the water if it's dark or stormy. Most of the time, you'll wear the PFD over your regular clothing, so if you do end up in the water, you'll be safe.
